Published in the early 1970s in the collection Initial of the Deutsche Grammophon, this French press offers recordings made initially around 1960–61, at the age of collaboration between Karajan and the Berlin orchestra.

The collection Initial The aim was to make available to as many of the prestigious recordings in the Deutsche Grammophon catalogue, keeping the artistic requirement and sound quality of the yellow label, while offering a sober and elegant presentation. This record is a perfect example: a powerful, precise and expressive reading, faithful to Karajan's rich and mastered style.

The Preludes, symphonic poem No. 3 by Liszt, is one of the most famous orchestral works of the 19th century. His heroic and immediately recognizable theme has marked generations of listeners. The Hungarian rhapsodies from Liszt, inspired by Gypsy folklore and virtuosity, bring shine, contrasts and orchestral panache. On the other hand, Hungarian dances Brahms offer irresistible rhythmic energy, mixing elegance, fervour and lyricism.
