This set is an important testimony of 20th-century French music, bringing together several major composers associated with the aesthetics of the Russian Ballets and the neoclassical spirit of the inter-war period.
Published by the label Classic Festival in the early 1970s (reference CFC 60019), this collection offers iconic works of Francis Poulenc (The Biches), Henri Sauguet (The Cattle), Darius Milhaud (Blue Train), Erik Satie (Jack in the Box, Milhaud orchestration) and Georges Auric (The Destroyed). Interpretation is provided by the Choir and the Monte Carlo Opera National Orchestra, under the inspired direction ofIgor Markevich, leader known for his rhythmic precision and affinity with the modern French repertoire.
